I think my appreciation for this art has developed more in the past couple years of my life than it has in the past. When I was little, my mom used to ask me if I'd like to take this or that dance class, and I would always say no. Let's just say that I regret it now.
My first real experience with dancing came when I started doing musicals in high school, and then once I got to college I really kicked off with dancing in my second semester of my freshman year. I took a beginning Social Ballroom Dance class and was also a co-chair in charge of a Disney-themed skit for an activity in my stake called the Spring Sing... and I ended up doing some simple hip hop choreography for our routine. Ever since then, my dancing skills have been progressing dramatically.

I had a test in my intermediate Social Dance class today on Triple Swing (aka East Coast Swing). When my teacher handed me the list of comments he made on my dancing, he told me that he had a hard time finding anything to criticize. He said he would keep watching me to see if he could find something for me to improve on (he said maybe I could go a bit lower with my bounce) but other than that, I was doing really well. Sure enough, I looked down at the comments he made and saw nothing but praise. Good posture, great energy, articulated footwork, and my spins have evidently improved a LOT since my cha-cha test. I think I've made the right choice in deciding to minor in ballroom!
I'm excited for tonight... the guy that I tested with in my class today invited me to go to a masquerade hip hop dance with him. It starts at 9:30... I don't have a masquerade mask, so he and I are both going to search for one, but it's perfectly fine if I don't have one. I'm just going for the dancing! It's been a while since I've done some real dancing other than ballroom.
I want to take a tap class next semester. It's time for me to branch out and add other things to my repertoire other than ballroom and hip hop. It would be fun to take a jazz dance class as well!
I love how you can use just your body to express so many different emotions. It's a great way to release energy, and it can definitely give you a work-out. It's probably my favorite form of exercise of all time! I'm so grateful that I have a body that functions properly so I can enjoy dancing.
