And I've already set out at a running start.
So now I just have to keep it up for the rest of the month instead of starting to slack halfway through.
One thing is keeping up my positive attitude.
Did I keep that up today? Of course. Success!
So let's take a look at what made the first day of my month so great:
President Thomas S. Monson came and spoke for our BYU Devotional today.
WONDERFUL opportunity.
I was lined up outside the Marriott Center by 8:45-ish so I could try getting a seat that was somewhat close to the front, and that worked out fairly well.
Some people camped out over night.
It makes me happy that people will do that to hear the prophet speak, instead of just to get in first at a big basketball game or something like that.
The Prophet gave a wonderful message about gaining/sharing a testimony, particularly about the Book of Mormon. I also loved the fact that he quoted The Lion King ("Look inside yourself Simba. You are more than you have become.") because it was my favorite movie ever when I was a kid. I was obsessed. I had a stuffed animal Simba who was my best friend... I still have him. In a box. In my attic.
Tangent time. Just because this is bugging me a little. People are already starting to play Christmas music. I LOVE Christmas music... don't get me wrong... but we're still a little less than 2 months away from Christmas! What about Thanksgiving??!!!! I love Thanksgiving... it's a great time for family, remembering your blessings, etc... so I'm kinda sad that some people are just so eager to jump past it and go straight into the Holiday Season. Presents, decorations, cooking, parties... they just can't wait. I feel like pretty soon, we'll get to the point when Christmas music will start right after Labor Day weekend.
Actually, no that probably will not happen. People won't skip over Halloween, it's way bigger of a holiday than Thanksgiving. Plus, it's too fun to decorate for. But still...
I'm thinking that maybe I could do a post each day leading up to Thanksgiving and list one blessing in each post. Even if that's all I post about for the day. Sounds good to me, so let's get started...
I'm thankful for President Monson.
I know that he is the Lord's mouthpiece on the earth today. I know that through him, we can know what the Lord would have us do. I am so thankful for Pres. Monson's willingness to serve the church and for his righteous example. I'm thankful for the humor, wisdom, and love that he shows as he speaks to us. I'm thankful that I could start this month out by listening to our beloved Prophet in person! What better way is there to begin a month?!
I like this whole "being thankful" idea.
Just saying.
