The Groundhog Lied

You know how the groundhog saw his shadow this year? And how that supposedly means that there will be 6 more weeks of winter? Well, either the groundhog lied, or Utah didn't get the memo. I'm not necessarily complaining about the 60-70 degree weather we've been having, but it is a little strange to be walking around in short sleeves in February.

For the record, Nicole gets so confused every time we go outside on sunny days (hence the face in that last photo). It's just so bright and fresh and there are so many things to look at! What a difference when we spend so much time inside! The warmer weather is seriously making me itch for spring, but I'm predicting the temperature will plunge again at some point before spring truly gets here.

Also... this baby is so chill when we're in public. We spent some time bowling, eating ice cream, playing arcades, and doing ropes courses with some friends at the Provo Beach Resort last week and she never complained, aside from some whimpering when she got hungry. If only she were that chill at home ;)

Deviant Spawn of Mother Nature

Let's face it... Provo weather is bi-polar. And as I said in my post title, I like to call it "the deviant spawn of mother nature".

Really though. Only a week and a half ago we were well on our way to summer and I had broken out my capris and flip-flops. Now it's snowing. SNOWING! And it's almost MAY! I'm back in boots and a jacket. I shake my fist at you, Provo.

Since it IS a little colder though, it means I was able get more use out of this cute spring jacket yesterday while Provo was still snow-free, and who can complain about that?!

Jacket: c/o eShakti   //   Dress: Kohl's   //  Boots: Forever Young Shoes   //   Necklace: Gifted

Warning: shameless plug moment. And my opinions are all my own!

Usually when I think of eShakti, I think of dresses and skirts, so I was pleasantly surprised to find this jacket among their spring collection items. There are some other cute color options here and here, but I went with this lovely tan option for a more practical look.

The fun thing about eShakti is that you have the option to use custom measurements! I gave the custom sizing a try, and the result = this jacket fits like a glove! I even got choose the length of the jacket, as well as the length of the sleeves. Basically, it's a jacket that consists of everything I love: longer in length, sleeves that go to the wrist, and it's fitted to my body shape instead of hiding me like a trash bag. I love it!

Plus, it's a spring jacket, which means that I can wear it when there's just a slight chill to the air without getting too hot. It's a warm look without making me feel too warm, and it's perfect for when this crazy Provo weather decides to switch to the colder side of spring. It even holds up in this dang snow, as long as I wear something cozy underneath and pile on the scarves and hats!

In other news, I make some weird faces when Doug takes pictures of me.

Let me prove it.

Okay, those aren't too weird. Those are just the ones that are acceptable to put on this blog, folks. Don't even get me started on double chins and a mouth that keeps gaping open awkwardly.

Of course, my simple little point-and-shoot doesn't help matters (DSLR, someday... *sigh...) and I really ought to find a camera-savvy blogger buddy and we can do photo shoots of each other or something. Until then, though, I'll keep forcing my poor hubby to take pictures of me. I know it's not his favorite thing, but at least he hasn't started openly protesting yet, right?! (Love you, hun)

March fever or something

It's that time of year when the air feels fresh and the temperature is more bearable.
The sunsets are beautiful.
I feel like any day now there will be buds on the trees. The grass is already greener.
Fingers crossed that the snow is done with for the season. Spring officially starts in less than 2 weeks, after all.

Doug and I are considering the possibility of moving sooner than we expected. We'll still be in Provo, but just not in Wymount any more. It is strange to think that we've spent almost 2 whole years here already.

Speaking of Doug, today is his birthday. Halfway to 50... not bad, not bad. As his mother said, "one quarter of a century down, three more to go!" When you say it that way, it seems like a lot - but not a lot at the same time. In any case, we're preppin' our bellies for some Tucanos goodness on Tuesday for a belated birthday lunch.

Meanwhile... Scott and I are getting ready to kick butt in our competition on Thursday! As far as I know, it's my very last DanceSport competition, so I hope to make it count for something. We're feeling confident about getting to finals. Hopefully. Top 3 would be nice. Gah, I'm nervous already!

In other news, I'm missing tap.
And how cool are my West Coast Swingin' team members?!

I've started to teach Doug some basic Samba concepts, along with the routine that they learn in the bronze-level class at BYU. We've reached a dance move called bota-fogos. They're pretty tough when you're just starting dance. He's doing pretty good for a beginner! I love him for indulging me and learning how to dance. He even knows bronze-level social cha-cha and foxtrot :) What a guy.

Speaking of dance, if any of you in Utah want to come see the BYU Ballroom Dance Company in concert this April, buy tickets from me! I'm required to sell them. You don't want to miss all the awesome dance routines, especially the national award-winning ones from our tour team!
