The Groundhog Lied

You know how the groundhog saw his shadow this year? And how that supposedly means that there will be 6 more weeks of winter? Well, either the groundhog lied, or Utah didn't get the memo. I'm not necessarily complaining about the 60-70 degree weather we've been having, but it is a little strange to be walking around in short sleeves in February.

For the record, Nicole gets so confused every time we go outside on sunny days (hence the face in that last photo). It's just so bright and fresh and there are so many things to look at! What a difference when we spend so much time inside! The warmer weather is seriously making me itch for spring, but I'm predicting the temperature will plunge again at some point before spring truly gets here.

Also... this baby is so chill when we're in public. We spent some time bowling, eating ice cream, playing arcades, and doing ropes courses with some friends at the Provo Beach Resort last week and she never complained, aside from some whimpering when she got hungry. If only she were that chill at home ;)

Deviant Spawn of Mother Nature

Let's face it... Provo weather is bi-polar. And as I said in my post title, I like to call it "the deviant spawn of mother nature".

Really though. Only a week and a half ago we were well on our way to summer and I had broken out my capris and flip-flops. Now it's snowing. SNOWING! And it's almost MAY! I'm back in boots and a jacket. I shake my fist at you, Provo.

Since it IS a little colder though, it means I was able get more use out of this cute spring jacket yesterday while Provo was still snow-free, and who can complain about that?!

Jacket: c/o eShakti   //   Dress: Kohl's   //  Boots: Forever Young Shoes   //   Necklace: Gifted

Warning: shameless plug moment. And my opinions are all my own!

Usually when I think of eShakti, I think of dresses and skirts, so I was pleasantly surprised to find this jacket among their spring collection items. There are some other cute color options here and here, but I went with this lovely tan option for a more practical look.

The fun thing about eShakti is that you have the option to use custom measurements! I gave the custom sizing a try, and the result = this jacket fits like a glove! I even got choose the length of the jacket, as well as the length of the sleeves. Basically, it's a jacket that consists of everything I love: longer in length, sleeves that go to the wrist, and it's fitted to my body shape instead of hiding me like a trash bag. I love it!

Plus, it's a spring jacket, which means that I can wear it when there's just a slight chill to the air without getting too hot. It's a warm look without making me feel too warm, and it's perfect for when this crazy Provo weather decides to switch to the colder side of spring. It even holds up in this dang snow, as long as I wear something cozy underneath and pile on the scarves and hats!

In other news, I make some weird faces when Doug takes pictures of me.

Let me prove it.

Okay, those aren't too weird. Those are just the ones that are acceptable to put on this blog, folks. Don't even get me started on double chins and a mouth that keeps gaping open awkwardly.

Of course, my simple little point-and-shoot doesn't help matters (DSLR, someday... *sigh...) and I really ought to find a camera-savvy blogger buddy and we can do photo shoots of each other or something. Until then, though, I'll keep forcing my poor hubby to take pictures of me. I know it's not his favorite thing, but at least he hasn't started openly protesting yet, right?! (Love you, hun)

Spring already??? Naaaw...

The only possible explanation is that Provo and Mother Nature are working together to play a trick on me. That's why it's been raining the past couple days instead of snowing. I mean, I'm not complaining, but I can only assume that winter is going to bite back with a vengeance. And it will probably be on Valentine's Day when my ballroom team has to travel to do a show somewhere (yes, we have a show on the 14th. *sigh...)

For now though, I'll just take what dear Mother Nature is offering me.

And, on top of that, I've survived the semester so far without any "senioritis" kicking in! So far. I can't promise that will last. 74 days from now, I'll be a college graduate! Not that I'm counting, of course.

Meanwhile, I've agreed to be the stage manager for yet another production (will I ever give myself a break?), all of our performances for Little Women are completely sold out and we're less than two weeks away from performances, and Doug & I had a fun, fancy time at the annual married student Y-Ball this weekend. It wasn't as fancy as last year, but we still enjoyed ourselves. Anything for the chance to dress up, right?

Brace Yourselves

Autumn is coming

The first leaves have fallen.
Capri pants will soon be a thing of the past.
My flip-flops are going to retire soon and be replaced by boots and other warmer shoes.
And I am so thoroughly excited about it.

The small changes in the weather and the environment are almost making me giddy. My fall decorations are going up soon! You guys, I'm dying here! It's the best time of the year, in my opinion! So very very excited :)

And I had my very last First Day of School today. In case anyone was wondering. Aww, how precious. And it was a little anti-climactic because I only had one class, and it didn't meet until the afternoon. Oh, the perks of being a college senior. I'll be up bright and early tomorrow for my ballroom class auditions though! Fingers crossed!

Oh, those rainy summer days

Summer is a time of sunshine, nearly unbearable heat, swimming, blue skies, and ice cream. Well, it's sunny right now, but I woke up this morning and had to wear these to campus.

Provo can have the most bipolar weather. For the past week, we've had on-and-off thunderstorms and surprise rain showers.

And I love it. Absolutely love it.

Plus... this campus looks so lovely with the grey skies, ultra-green trees, and that earthy rain smell.

I love this place.

Even a rainy beach will do

It's days like today that I wish I were back here.

With the weather hovering in the high 90s, the beach sounds really nice. Even a rainy-day beach like this one. I'm not picky as long as there's sand crabs, ocean water, and a salty breeze. It's been nearly half a year since I stood on a beach, and nearly 2 years since I went to a beach when it's warm and sunny.

That day was windy. I can't decide if I like windy beaches or not. It cools you down, but your hair gets crazy. Beach-hair to the extreme!

Speaking of wind, I can hear a lot of wind outside right now! I'm crossing my fingers because the temperature has dropped down to 73 degrees and it's supposed to get into the 60s tonight. There's even a 20% chance of rain tomorrow! I suppose I'm getting my hopes up, but you never know. Provo has very strange weather...

Summer rain storms, anyone? I don't know about you, but I love them. Especially when you throw in a little thunder.
