Austin // 5 Years

What a kid! We love this boy, with all his giggles and on-the-move energy. Here are some tidbits about Austin at the age of 5:

- I want to remember how he pronounces girl as "gwill"

- He's the sweetest big brother to his baby sister Lydia. He loves to hold her and stroke her head and talk to her in a "Motherese" voice.

- He can spend HOURS each day playing with Legos

- This year he has played soccer, t-ball, and is currently taking karate. He's loved them all!

- He wants to be friends with everyone

- Still has a great belly laugh

- He gets so excited for other people's success, joy, etc. and has awesome "pump it up" energy

- I am SO proud and appreciative of how calm, brave, and cooperative he is when under pressure or in a new/scary situation. Especially when all of his sisters are definitely not calm in those situations. We lucked out with him!

- His spatial-awareness and problem-solving skills are great. We have a board game that involves using pieces to create a pathway across the board to collect keys and get to the opposite corner before trolls do, and he caught on to the concept immediately, and can see multiple pathways forward in his head and strategize which one he wants to take.

- He adores preschool and looks forward to Kindergarten next year, especially after hearing Nicole talk it up so much.

- He discovered Minecraft this year. Yeah. He loves it.

- He STILL prefers 11-12 hours of sleep per night. Bless you, Austin.

- He enjoys playing video games with Nicole (the top choices aside from Minecraft being Kirby: All-Star Allies; and Super Smash Bros Ultimate).

- His love for foods containing cheese runs deep. Pizza, quesadillas, mac & cheese, pesto/cheese sandwiches, cheese sticks, sprinkling cheese on pasta and soups... cheese, man. Cheese.

- Still has a banana almost every day. Sometimes more than one. Honestly. This kid has easily eaten hundreds of bananas over the course of his short life. He might have even broken 1,000...

- He's quite skilled on his balance bike, so we're going to be gifting him a bike with pedals for Christmas. I imagine he will manage the transition from balance to pedal quite smoothly.

He's the Best Boy, no doubt. We're so glad to have him in our family. We love you, Austin!
